Types of Woods
All of the woods we use are primarily hardwoods.
They are hand cut, sanded, and most have
three coats of finish applied. [You will find some
irregularities in the wood - we call this
"character." ] We are always looking for new
combinations and we will change from time to time. Because
they are handmade, occasionally we may be temporarily
out of stock. If so, we will let you know when your order
will be ready.
Exotics
We offer racks made from wood imported from around the
world. Here is a list of current some of the woods offered as well as
their country of origin:
Lacewood from Australian
Blood wood from Brazil
Cocobolo from Central America
Zebrawood from Africa
Teak from several tropical locations
Bubinga from Africa
Mahogany from Africa
Goncalo Alves from Brazil
Padauk from Africa
Purpleheart from Central America
Ebony from Africa
Rosewood from Central America
Domestic Hardwoods
Our
domestic hardwoods are less expensive than their imported
counterparts, but just as beautiful when finished. Currently we carry the following domestic
woods:
Oak
Maple
Walnut
Cherry
Inlays - Striped
These combinations combine two different types of wood
or brass in a single rack. The result is a stunning piece of art
with incredible contrast. No, they don't help you score
higher - they just look better then the other person's
tile rack. The striking beauty of these racks make
especially good Scrabble® gifts.
Specials
When creating our racks there are sometimes moderate
flaws in the wood. We sell these pieces at slightly discounted
prices. Every piece that goes out our door is playable and
beautiful.
Tournament Racks
Win your next Scrabble® tournament and
look good doing it with our extra long tournament racks.
These racks allow you to draw more than 7 tiles or just
give you more space to arrange your tiles. We
removed the built in scoring on these racks, but kept
the same handmade quality as our original line.
